China Diary Part 3: On the streets of Shanghai
Tuesday in Shanghai.
This city is made for strolling. Firstly, driving seems near impossible (although I think in time I could manage riding a scooter here). But walking means exploring the tree-lined alleys and hidden markets which have made this place so special for me.
So it’s Tuesday, and we’ve trying to fit in as much as possible before leaving on our next adventure. We walk through the backstreets to the Jade Buddha Temple. Incense, lotus candles, answered prayers and a few sweaty tourists like us.
Later, I take a peak into a pet market. The locals see these animals differently from how I do. So far this trip has challenged more than a couple of my values.
